The Sacred Circuit
Established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, the Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand is the most revered Himalayan pilgrimage. The four dhams — Yamunotri (source of Yamuna), Gangotri (source of Ganga), Kedarnath (Lord Shiva Jyotirlinga), and Badrinath (Lord Vishnu) — unite river worship, Shaiva devotion, and Vaishnava pilgrimage into one transcendent journey.
The traditional clockwise route follows: Yamunotri (west) → Gangotri (north) → Kedarnath (south-east) → Badrinath (north-east). Open only six months a year, these temples sit at altitudes between 3,100m and 3,583m — some of the highest pilgrimage sites in the world.
